FRIED POTATO CASSEROLE

This is a manly casserole! Inspired by a German Fried Potato Casserole. I felt the German Casserole was good but just too simple. These changes I made took it to the next level.

3 large russet potatoes sliced thin (all roughly the same size so will cook though evenly)

small onion

3 cloves garlic

salt

pepper

1-lb. ground chuck

1- lb. sausage

2 tbsp. flour

2 cups heavy cream

2 Tbsp butter

Grated cheeses .. NOTE you can use what ever cheese you have.. I had some leftover cheeses so I used them today

I grated some Swiss, Munster, and Sharp Cheddar together

Grated Parmesan Cheese

First peel and slice your potatoes thin place in skillet with some oil and salt and pepper them and turn frequently as you fry them.

Mince your garlic and your onion small add to another pan with a little oil. Cooke garlic and onion together a little then add in your ground chuck and ground sausage. chop it up best you can and fry till cooked. Drain it and set it aside.

while potatoes finish frying. Shred your cheeses and set them to the side.

Get out a sauce pan and make a roux. Using 2 Tbsp. Butter, melted in the pan, and add in 2 tbsp flour. salt and pepper. Mix well and brown lightly. Then slowly pour in a cup of heavy cream.. let it thicken and add in another cup of heavy cream or milk. salt and pepper well and take off heat.

Take fried potatoes off heat. Time to layer casserole.

In a 9×13 Casserole Dish add all potatoes to the bottom.

take some of your meat and put over top the potatoes.

pour half of your gravy over top of the meat and spread it thin with rubber spatula to try and cover the whole dish.

put some of your shredded cheeses over top .

then meat again using all of it

then the rest of the gravy, using rubber spatula to get every drop and to spread it evenly.

top with cheese that’s left

finish with grating some parmesan cheese over top

put into 350 degree oven for 20 minutes

Serve hot and cheesy
