molasses cookies

this recipe was my mother’s & amy’s favorite cookie…when she was 8 she entered this in the van vandt county fair (87) and won best of fair-youth division… that same year she got published in the country accent magazine and won $100.00, she took some of the money and brought her youth dew estee lauder…in 1993 she entered in the sate fair and won 1st. place in the junior section of the cookie contest…this recipe has proven to be a winner.

 

3/4 cup shorting, 1 cup sugar, 1/4  cup molasses, 1 egg, 1/2 tsp. salt, 2 cups flour, 2 tsp. baking soda, 1/2 tsp. cloves, 1/2 tsp. ginger, 1 tsp. cinnamon. melt shorting over low heat then let cool. then add sugar, molasses & egg, beat well. sift flour, soda, cloves, ginger, cinnamon & salt. and add to other mixture and mix well, then chill. form into 1-inch balls & roll in sugar & place on greased cookie sheet. Bake 375* for 7 minutes.
