Stack Cake Recipe
1/2 lard or shortening
1 egg
1/2 cup suagar
1/3 cup molases
1/2 cup butter milk
3 1/2 cups all purpose flour
2 tsp baking powder
1/2 tsp salt
1 tsp soda
1 tsp vanilla
1 tsp cinnamon
1/2 tsp all spice
1/2 tsp ground cloves
dash of nutmeg

Cream together sugar and lard,add egg,molasses and butter milk. Blend well. Sift together dry ingredients and add to cream mixture. Mix thoroughly and add vanilla.
Chill dough until easily handled
Divide dough into four
Roll dough into 9″ circles
Place into greased 9″ pan
Place into preheated oven at 350 degrees for 10-15 minutes or until done.
When cool,spread with prepared apples or apple butter and repeat with next layer
You can stack as many as you want and top with cooked apples or apple butter.
My mother always let set in the fridge for a day or two, so the apples could soak into the cake layers.
