RECIPE AND PHOTO SUBMITTED BY Johnnie Smith

Lessie’s Pound Cake….one of my favorite. After my mom passed away, I found this one in her recipes and it was named after my mother Lessie. I dont know if she did that herself or if it was the name of it b/c it was handwritten. But here is a pic of the one I made a couple of months ago.

Here Goes: I have to give this recipe to you as it is written on this piece of paper.
LESSIE’S POUND CAKE
1 LB BUTTER
3 CUPS SUGAR (SIFTED)
3 C. PLAIN FLOUR
5 EGGS ROOM TEMP.
1 CUP MILK ROOM TEMP.
1 TSP. VANILLA FLAVORING
1 TSP LEMON EXTRACT
½ TSP BAKING POWDER
CREAM SUGAR AND BUTTER, ADD EGGS ONE AT A TIME. STIR FLOUR A LITTLE AT TIME (I SIFTED MINE). ADD BAKING POWDER TO ABOVE THEN VANILLA FLAVORING AND LEMON EXTRACT AND BEAT. PUT IN A COLD OVEN AND BAKE AT 350 DEGREES FOR 1 HOUR AND 10 MINUTES.

**I HAVE MY MOTHERS OLD TUBE CAKE PAN, AND THAT IS WHAT I USED FOR THIS POUND CAKE. :
