1 1/2 lbs Granny Smith Apples

2 Tbsp butter

1/8 tsp ground nutmeg

1/4 cup sugar

1 tsp cinnamon

1/4 c light brown sugar

1/3 cup water

1 1/3 cup water

1/2 tsp cornstartch

1/2 cup blackberries.. fresh or frozen

Pie dough (recipe follows)

Egg wash (recipe follows)

Peel and core apples. Cut into quarters. Then in 1/4 inch slices.

Add to a 3 quart saucepan with butter, nutmeg, sugar, cinnamon, brown sugar and just ONE cup of water.

Cook until apples are tender, but not soft. Stir occasionally to keep from sticking.

After apples have become tender. Reduce heat mix 1/2  teaspoon of cornstarch with 1/3 cup water. and slowly add it to the apple mixture while stirring.  Continue stirring 3-5 min as the mixture thickens.  Remove from heat and cool.

Make your Pie dough

3/4 tsp salt

1 1/3 pastry flour

1 tbsp sugar

1/2 c veg shortening

1/4 cup water

1/4 cup milk

Sift into 3 qt mixing bowl. Salt, flour, and sugar. Add shortening and blend with a pastry cutter till crumbly.

Combine water and milk and  gradually add to flour mixture. Just enough to form a moist dough.  Knead lightly and make into square. put into waxed paper and wrap up. Put into fridge for 1 hour. Take out and roll dough 1/4 inch thick and use for whole cobbler or can cut 6  to fit 6 individual  baking dishes allowing enough extra dough to hang over sides of dish… I used it for one cobbler.

Preheat oven to 350 degrees

Pour apple mixture into dish, then take blackberries and place on top of apple filling .. dot with butter.. Cover the dish with your pastry dough

Seal corners of your baking dish.. or if doing individual cups. can just let it hang over edges.. your preference. Then make vent wholes.. your own design.

Make EGG WASH… using 1 beaten egg and 1/4 cup milk. Combine and brush onto top of cobbler

Bake till top of each cobbler is  lightly browned.  Remove from oven

serve warm with ice cream
