DIRT CAKE, SAND CAKE, MUD PIES, WHATEVER VERSION YOU DESIRE

you can do many variations.. you can use the sand bucket and use vanilla pudding and instead of oreo’s use brown cookies so it will look like sand … you can also do ALL chocolate, chocolate oreo and chocolate pudding, that way it is really dark like mud pies..  LOL the kids have a blast with these.. but the best tasting version is the original recipe.. french vanilla pudding and oreos ALL of them I add the rest of the same ingredients, vanilla, cream cheese, cool whip,… just change up the other ingredients and you have different versions so it don’t ever get old for the kids.

Kids got me to make Dirt Cake with gummy worms for the Shrek Party

NOTE : I almost ALWAYS double this recipe

Dirt Cake

1 1/4 lb. Oreo cookies crumbled
8 oz. Cream cheese
1 stick margarine
1 c confectionary sugar
12 oz. Cool whip
3 c milk
1 tsp vanilla
2 3 oz French vanilla instant pudding (also can use choc pudding)

Crush cookies set aside. (a lot of people pulverize theirs I DO NOT.. I like a big chunk of cookie so  do it however you like but the cookie is the best part don’t beat it to death, and use the fine crumbs for the very top)
Mix cream cheese and butter till smooth mix in confectioners sugar fold in cool whip in separate bowl mix pudding, milk, vanilla, and fold in cream cheese mixture
Use 13x9x2 pan or flower pot layer 1/2 dirt crumbs
Pour pudding over then repeat decorate with gummy worms or fake flowers for kids can serve with NEW garden trowel

here is another pic of one I did for an adult function at church

NOTE: I always double the recipe to make these size bowls you see pictured.

THis one I did for the kids at Easter one year

you can decorate them with ANY theme almost and young and old alike LOVE THIS DISH….

this one was done for BUG ZONE Vacation Bible School this year.. I wanted to make a MUD PIE STATION.. so the kids could make their own mud pies and decorate them themselves.. One batch was made with original recipe the other had CHOCOLATE pudding swapped for the french vanilla to make it more muddy..

in my station.. worms, rice krispies as dead bugs, fine oreo’s as dirt, and m&m’s as colored rocks

This photo is of dirt cake is a HUGE BATCH because I was making it for a lot of people. I did it by getting some huge kitchen bowls out and after I mixed the ingredients for the first recipe I then did it again basically doubling the recipe without mixing them all together at once, so they got mixed evenly. THen I added the “like items” together and started layering.. when I got to the top I decided to make ONE LAYER ONLY of chocolate pudding so I mixed two large boxes of chocolate instant pudding with 3 1/2 cups of milk together and then poured it over top and finished it with my fine layer of oreo crumbs.. it was really nice having that extra touch of chocolate pudding.. here is a photo.. enjoy and have fun.. make your own version!!!
