Antique Chocolate Pinwheels

Combine

1/2 cup Shortening

with 1 cup Granulated Sugar

Beat thoroughly adding

3/4 tsp salt

1 tsp vanilla

1 unbeaten egg

Sift  together,

1 1/2 all purpose flour

with 1/2 tsp baking soda

add to the mix and blend

divide your dough in half into two balls

put one ball back into the mixing bowl and add 1/2 tsp almond flavoring

take out and put other ball in mixing bowl

take out 1 1/2 square of chocolate and melt

add melted chocolate to mixing bowl as you mix medium speed

blend well

Put each dough on large pieces waxed paper cover with a second  piece of paper

and roll each  dough to 1/8 thickness.. then I take knife and cut off the pieces till I got a good rectangle

(I do one then use  that one as a template so the other will match by putting dots with marker to outline where I need to roll too.. makes it easier)

Place vanilla  on sheet .

Peel off bottom of vanilla sheet carefully and place vanilla sheet carefully  on top of chocolate sheet ( or vice versa your choice..)  then you will peel off the TOP layer of the vanilla sheet now..

roll up lengthwise using  waxed paper as a “pusher”

smooth as you go along to prevent cracks. Making a firm tight roll..

after all rolled up I  turned mine so I could roll the waxed paper up and twist ends

..I put in fridge to chill overnight.

then cut into 1/8 slices

and place on greased baking sheet.(I spray)

Bake in moderate oven (350 -375) for 8-10 minutes

Transfer to cooling rack with a very thin spatula

Enjoy
