QUESTIONS AND ANSWERS ON YEAST!!!

So I buy my yeast in bulk at SAMS saves soooooo much money and I always have it on hand.. here is what I have found out..

yeast is ALIVE.. it will last pretty good if kept in airtight container in cool dark place…

most recipes call for 2 pks of yeast .. 2 Tablespoons is what I use in place of that.

the only thing about buying in bulk is one day your yeast WILL go bad….. … here is the answer..

So your dough is not rising…

YOUR YEAST MAY BE BAD

your dough is not rising….. well we can save it.. it wont be as good but it wont be scraps either

first I take a couple tbsp of baking soda and sprinkle in dough and knead slightly and put in warmer place cover with damp towel and see if it rises

If the dough still doesn’t rise, you will need to add more yeast. take about a tbsp.. put it in a small bowl…

NOTE:  (this is also the test you can use to see if your yeast is active or needs to be throwed out)

Mix yeast from a new package with 1/4 cup warm water and 1/2 tsp. sugar.

Let it sit for 10 minutes until foam forms, to be sure the yeast is active.

(it should look like this, you cant see it well but it is like a foamy foam on top.. if you have only a few bubbles then your yeast is dead)

Knead the yeast mixture into the dough.

Leave the dough in a warm place to rise with damp cloth over top

now once it has risen some you can continue with your recipe…

it worked.. my meat ring came out great even though my first batch of yeast was dead.. Y AY
