2 quarts grease

1 cup sugar

1/2 cup borax

1 cup household ammonia

1 quart lye

1 quart cold water


Wash and strain grease by boiling in water.

let stand overnight and skim off. Heat grease and add sugar, borax and ammonia. Add lye to the cold water. Cook until lukewarm.

Pour mixture into grease.

Stir until consistency of fudge.

Pour into a waxed paper lined box and cut into squares  when cold.
