    I basically all I do is peel tons of apples, use my corer/quarterer thingy majig 🙂 …and in a  large pot w/1/2c water, boil down over medium heat until they boil, transfer to large crockpot with 1/2 to 1c brown sugar and a tbs of apple pie spice..before bed. …next morning continue to cook until a spoon stands up by itself in the apple butter. ..jar/can
    oh and I was taught, if you use a variety of apples, like 3-4 or more ..then your apple butter will be natural sweet and you won’t have to even use sugar at all…mostly I use 1/4 c brown sugar and love it.

..use more apple pie spice ..to suit your taste though

 

  • another tip is…you don’t want the lid tight on the crock pot.
    I take 2 wooden spoons and lay one on each side to hold the lid up a bit, so the steam escapes
