1 1-lb. pkg. dairy caramels

6 medium red apples, washed dried

6 wooden skewers

3 tablesp. hot water

chopped walnuts 

Several hrs before serving:

1. in double boiler, over boiling water, melt caramels with 3 tbsp water, stirring frequently, until a smooth sauce. 

2. Meanwhile remove stems from apples. Insert wooden skewer part way into stem end of each apple. 

3. Remove sauce from heat. Now holding each apple by skewer and tilting double boiler top, quickly twirl apple in caramel sauce. Remove from sauce, continue twirling to allow sauce to spread smoothly over apple. 

4. Next quickly dip bottom or completely roll each apple in the chopped walnuts; then place skewer side up, on lightly buttered cookie sheet and refrigerate until serving time, makes 6
