SWEETENED CONDENSED MILK IN A PINCH

makes one can of sweetened condensed milk

All of us have been there.. we need a can of sweetened condensed milk and usually that is something I always keep on hand but today I was in the mood to bake during this snow day and I had not even one can. So all you need is two ingredients to make it ! Sugar and milk! You can use heavy cream or whole milk but the easiest is just grab a can of evaporated milk

Add 1 can of evaporated milk to 1 1/2 cups of sugar in a heavy saucepan

constantly stir as it is easily scorched.. basically just like you would start out making homemade cooked fudge.

Add a pinch of salt but not needed. Turn heat down a bit as it boils.. continue to stir..

you will see it begin to reduce…

it will take a little while just keep stirring.. not sure how long maybe 10 minutes or so I dont time it.. but you can tell … now remember if it starts to scorch you will ruin the taste so if you see brown flecks on the bottom have another pot handy and hurry and pour over into that one.. you do not want to scorch it!

once thickened just take off heat and use it for your recipe you wanted. May need to cool, according to what your using it for

I am using it for a Mounds Bar Cake so I’m pouring mine in as is
