SERENA’S MOLASSES MARB-APPLE SPICE

Okay so this dish is absolutely UGLY when it comes out.. looks a mess.. looks like it is an epic fail.. BUT.. it tastes wonderful. You must eat it as soon as it comes out of the oven warm with Vanilla Ice Cream over top. It has bits of white cake throughout with a wonderful all most fudgy in consistency of Molasses intwining it’s way throughout the dish. On the bottom you will finally come to the delicious cooked apples.  For me the taste makes up for the appearance.

Let’s begin:

4 cups (4-5 medium) apples, pared and sliced

Combine with:

1 cup sugar

1 Tbsp flour

1 tsp cinnamon

2 tbsp butter

2 tbsp water

1 tbsp lemon juice

Cook over medium heat in  sauce pan occasionally stirring.

Towards end add 1/3 cup brown sugar

grease a 9×13 pan

Sift together 2 1/4 cups flour

2 tsp baking powder

1 tsp baking soda

1/2 tsp salt

Blend in 1/2 cup crisco

1 cup sugar

mix well Add 2 unbeaten eggs one after a time beating after each on low speed

Measure 2/3 cup milk add to dry ingredients slowly blending

Place HALF of the batter in a second bowl.

The half still in the mixer you add 1/2 cup Molasses,

1 tsp cinnamon,1/4 tsp cloves, 1/4 tsp nutmeg, and 1/4 tsp baking soda

add 1/3 cup of white sugar and 1/3 cup brown sugar

Pour cooked apples into the pan

Sprinkle heavily with sugar/cinnamon mixture

Spoon the light and dark randomly in the pan over top the apples  till no part of the pan is showing.

sprinkle top heavily with cinnamon and sugar mixture

put pan in preheated oven of 350 degrees for about 40 minutes. (watch it you can tell when your “white part of cake is raised totally)

It will not be the most pleasing looking dish at all… the white batter will raise, forming a  CAKE. Whereas the molasses batter will turn into a gooey delicious attachment

you take it out and serve IMMEDIATELY while still warm.serve with Vanilla ice cream over top.. it is like having a Molasses Cobbler if there is such a thing..
