Here is the recipe box I made, that I am keeping for myself, due to reasons stated in prior comment. I think the Recipe books would be much easier.

  • Serena Adkins Ellison WOW you made this?

  • Marla Patton Watson Yes I did it yesterday. I am making them for my girls Christmas then filling them up with recipes!

  • Serena Adkins Ellison That is an awesome gift and one they will NEVER forget.. every time they use it .. they will think of you and the love and hard work that went into the gift

  • Dawn Hughes-Weber Marla, that is beautiful…I love the colors…I think the recipe box is a great idea too. My daughter would love this…so if you are doing it for a daughter, it would be worth it to me…I am just not that talented to make something like this…lol. I still want you to post pics of what you come up with on the books…I am going to do mine after Christmas…I am just to busy right now to do it…: )

  • Marla Patton Watson I will do that for you, and this was not that hard to do! This was my first attempt of decorating a box… and I think I can do better.. not my best work, but not my worst! My daughter loves it so I let her have it for her CD’s. When it comes to “gifts” for outsiders… my sons girlfriend is who I am making this for.. It has to be perfect! If that makes since. I have thought about the book idea and I will do that next so I can post a picture for you. Did you seeSerena Adkins Ellison book idea on this page she made for her family? I love that idea!

  • Dawn Hughes-Weber I like the idea too…she has a big family with lots of family involvement…very blessed to have so much passed down to her…I don’t have that…so the recipes I do will come from me to my daughter…but I’ve been collecting them for a while. I would all them my tried and true recipes…I need to post some here…cause I’ve been cooking a long time…my daughters says she loves about everything I cook and wants my recipes…some of what I do, I don’t have a recipe for…so I am typing up what I can…because I just through somethings together…like my potato soup.

  • Marla Patton Watson I noticed we could post videos. I maybe able to post a step by step video of how I did this box when I do the next one for you. I think anyone can do this! Easy! I got a CD box from Wal-mart. $3.99 1 yard of fabric, $1.50 1/2 each color, 3 rolls of ribbon 2 of the small dots and one striped. $6.00 About 20 feet. Set of large Buttons $1.99 and Hot glue gun and glue. Think the new ones run about $4.00 Everything is glued. Use cereal boxes, or those flat rate shipping envelopes are perfect too. Make patterns of the entire box (for the inside of the box) so cut them down a little bit, well call them liners so you know what I am saying here. Start by gluing the main color on the outside of the box, wrapping it around the corners of the box and only glue it on the inside of the box. When that is all done, you then wrap fabric around the cereal box cut outs gluing the fabric on the back side, then glue on your ribbon to the cereal box liners. (this will hide the ends of the other fabric) Glue them to the inside of the box. Then you take your ribbon and glue that on the ends of the box to hide the gaps between the box and liners. I also wrapped the ribbon around the top of the box and bottom for decoration using a button to hold the two ribbon ends together.

  • Dawn Hughes-Weber Don’t forget the font and color of it…cause you can make it all match the paper and book…my daughter and I both love all shades of purples…mine is actually plum…so I am doing a certain font and doing it all in purple/plum…so when I print them out, it is already done…I’ve been saving everything like this…and I cut and paste, but change it to the font and color I want, as I save each recipe…I’ve been doing this for several months now…I still think the lamenation sheets are going to work better for me…just because I can pull it out of the book and not worry about destroying it…

  • Marla Patton Watson I also used poly-fill on the lid to make it soft to touch between the fabric and box. I think that covers the materials and instructions, let me know if you have trouble. I would be happy to help!

  • Dawn Hughes-Weber Thank you for posting that…I will keep this info so when I am ready I can pull it up…
