So me and my boys love to get together in the kitchen and create things … today we decided to make something to give their friends in my Sunday School Class this Sunday….. especially since Randy has turned 10 years old, because sadly for me =(  he will be leaving my class this quarter and moving on.. they had a LOT of fun making these.. I don’t know how easy they will be to eat but the kids are super excited and so am I.. =) These were very inexpensive to make.. I had most everything on hand already..

HEART OF JESUS CANDIES FOR CHRISTMAS

(PEPPERMINT AND CHOCOLATE  HEARTS )

you will need:

Candy Canes – the small miniature ones

Almond Bark- I used both White and Chocolate

Double boiler: I always make my own with a pot of water and a glass bowl  =)

Sprinkles are optional- if you don’t have them you can decorate with crushed candy canes

Open ended Sandwich baggies or even Saran Wrap will work I know cause I ran out of bags and had to finish with Saran Wrap hahahha

Ribbon

name tags : you can make your own.. what I did was take christmas name tags and cut up an old Christmas or birthday card, stick the sticker to the sturdy card and I used a HOLE PUNCH to punch me a hole for my ribbon

NOW get Started..

let the kids put the candy cans on the cookie sheets lined with waxed paper , they will fashion them into hearts.. and the broken ones they will have fun breaking up and putting in a small bowl to use later for decorating with..

meanwhile YOU (not the kids) will be melting your almond bark in the double boilers – Note keep stirring and once melted turn down heat as to keep chocolate nice.

NOW bring the kids over with their tray.. and you can carefully spoon hot chocolate into the heart molds.. do about 3 at a time and let the kids come over and sprinkle and decorate before the chocolate has time to harden.. then you continue till each one is done..

NOW I made the mistake of putting mine in the freezer to harden faster.. I do that with all my other chocolates.. but I guess the heat then the cold caused some of my candy canes to crack.. I had to do repair work with my remaining chocolate and was able to save them thankfully but next time just let them harden naturally on their own.. don’t rush it..

NOW.. time to bag them ..

such fun and wonderful gift for kids to be proud of giving to their friends. and CHEAP =)
