3 Eggs

2 Cups Brown Sugar (firmly packed)

1 Cup Shortening (not butter)

1 Cup Milk

4 Cups Flour

¾ Teaspoon Baking Soda

1 ½ Teaspoon Baking Powder

1 Teaspoon Vanilla

Cream shortening with brown sugar, add eggs, then vanilla. Mix well.

Sift flour, soda, and baking powder together.

Add alternately with the milk to creamed butter and sugar mixture. Mix well.

Drop from a heaping teaspoon. I use a cookie scoop to have them all the same size.

Bake 375◦ for 10 – 11 minutes

Cookies will be golden brown and puffy….Ice with icing recipe below.

Icing

4 Cups sifted confectioner sugar

1 Stick Butter (1/4 lb.)

1/3 Cup Milk

Dash Salt

1 Teaspoon Vanilla

Mix well and spread on cooled cookies.

There was never a real recipe for this cookie. Family members begged their grandma to give them the recipe, but even Grandma never knew the exact ingredients. All she knew was a little of this and a little of that. Family members finally figured out the recipe when they said “Hold on Grandma, we want to measure that before you put in”…so they measured and finally had a one of a kind recipe! This cookie is like a soft little cake, with creamy icing. It’s always been their favorite cookie, and now it’s ours.
