QUESTION SUBMITTED BY Beth Johnston on our TRIED AND TRUE RECIPE GROUP FACEBOOK-

Anyone have recommendations on cooking a turkey? I usually put mine in roaster pan with some broth in bottom for moisture. Mix some herbs with butter and rub under/on skin. Tent with foil for 1/2 cooking time, then remove to brown skin. Very good but thought others may have something better 🙂

    • Sherry Church Browning You may think this sounds crazy, but I always cook my turkey breast side down until the last 15-20 minutes then I flip it and let it brown. Have never had dry breast meat.

Beth Johnston That may be an idea I try. My MIL boils it on the stove top first, then puts it in the oven to brown. She is not well enough to cook this year, so I will be making Thanksgiving dinner. Don’t want to mess up my first year as chef! LOL
    • Sherry Church Browning I usually loosen the skin and add some butter and salt too. It won’t be “picture perfect”, but no dried up meat will more than make up for it.
    • Beth Johnston Amen on that
    • Beth Johnston I can’t stand dry turkey
    • Beth Johnston The juicier the better
    • Sherry Church Browning Try it that way. I put some chicken broth or some water with butter and salt in it in the bottom of the pan…I use that to baste the turkey, for dressing and for gravy too. Put a couple of onions in the cavity too. Wonderful flavor and juicy meat. Let me know if you try it and how it turns out. Good Luck!!!

I tried this recipe last year, and it was the best turkey ever! I substituted the candied ginger with ground ginger though because the brine can be costly to put together. http://blog.zap2it.com/frominsidethebox/2009/11/alton-browns-good-eats-best-ever-turkey-brine-recipe.html
    • Cheryl MawMaw Sleeth theres nothing more than I love than a baked Turkey…UNTIL I had a deep fried turkey…..its now my favorite!!!! 🙂
