Canned “garden raised pinto green beans” today. If u have never raised them u are losing out. Have to string them and can before they dry out and have to be shelled but it’s well worth it. Fry about four strips of bacon and dump quart of beans in and heat. Great!!

COMMENTS FROM TRIED AND TRUE RECIPES

  • Serena Adkins Ellison Awesome !!!! Do you have pics of yours canned ?
  • Loretta Stanley never did the green ones but have let them dry and did the dried ones. can very easy and so good.
  • Leon Trent Loretta, on the second picking all of them had to be shelled. But I think much better if canned before they dry plus u have much less waste.
  • Loretta Stanley I can half runner green beans but never did the ones that are usually dried, pinto, northern, lima, kidney etc. (never canned them while green I mean. always canned the dry beans, so easy to have ready when needed.
  • Leon Trent I normally just raise blue lake because they don’t have to be strung but the pinto’s are very much worth the stringing.
  • Loretta Stanley my daughter in law always raise the blue lakes because of the no strings. but I don’t care for the taste
  • Leon Trent Canned about 25 qts. Of pinto’s.
  • Serena Adkins Ellison Okay I see.. so you canned green beans WITH pinto beans right?
How long for processing time? Same as usual for green beans? and did you add anything other than salt? very interested in your recipe.. gonna try it
  • Leon Trent No. They are just pinto’s canned before they dry out and have to be shelled. Process same as regular green beans.
Only salt….The next picking had to be shelled. Lots of work there.
  • Loretta Stanley looking good
