Mom’s (SHELMA’S)  Old Time Drop Biscuits from scratch

She never really measures so I am approximating (prob why I can never get my biscuits to her level of expertise lol)

2 1/2 c self rising  flour I am guessing in a large mixing bowl

add water right from the spicket, a dough will begin to form.. you don’t handle it a lot or it will be tough

pour in a little vegetable oil and mix lightly

let it sit for a  minute after mixing  before putting out  onto counter makes a big difference, make sure oven is heating.

Saw mom and grandma do these different ways.  Most times they just dust hands with flour, and form and shape  the biscuits in their hands and just drop in the hot  cast iron skillet that was heated in oven with butter melted, they would turn the biscuit over to make sure both sides got buttered till whole skillet was filled up then bake…

another way they did it was to place dough on lightly floured surface

do not over work …  just gently pat down dough with hands  putting a small amount of flour over top where is sticky and pat down…  (she uses her hands) pat lightly,

take round cutter and cut out biscuits dip each side with melted butter or oil  from waiting hot greased pan and put in pan bake hot oven – 400-500 degrees according to your oven .. don’t time it just let them bake .. bottoms will form a crust, my oven don’t get brown on top as good so you can put broiler for tops to finish off before done if tops are not browned enough.. take out and brush melted butter over tops and serve hot.. enjoy.

these poor biscuits aint as pretty as you see other places but they are good..
