100 YEAR OLD WV BLACKBERRY CAKE

1 1/2 cups sugar

1/2 cup butter or crisco

2 cups all purpose flour

1/2 cup buttermilk

2 cups blackberries

5 eggs

2 tsp baking soda

1/2 tsp cinnamon

1/2 tsp cloves

tsp vanilla

Cream together sugar and shortening. add eggs.

Mix flour, baking soda, cinnamon, cloves and vanilla

add in to sugar mixture.

add in buttermilk.

Fold in blackberries last

bake in greased and floured tube pan at 350 degrees for 44 minutes or till done

Recipe said to frost with caramel icing or drizzle with a simple Vanilla glaze if desired.

photo below is caramel fudge icing we didn’t like the caramel icing paired with this cake although the recipe suggested it— the caramel would be better suited for a chocolate or vanilla cake
