Crocked Beef ( I found this in a cattleman’s journal 20 plus years ago and the simplicity of it got my attention.)

2 lbs beef for stew, trimmed of all fat; 1 stick of butter or margerine; 2 pkgs of dry onion soup mix; 1 small jar of mushrooms, optional.

Combine all ingredients in an electric slow cooker; cover and cook for 8 hours on low. Add a small amount of water for more gravy or to weaken some, if desired.

Serve over rice or egg noodles.
