It’s called ” The Household Cook Book” and if you’re able to read the the reicpe wrote in pencil, what is said…

 

GOOD CAKE

1 cup sugar
1/2 cup butter
2 eggs
1 cup sour milk
2 cups flour
1 teaspoon soda
1 Tablespoon B.P. (baking powder)
1 teaspoon cinn
2 Tablespoons cocoa

I made Kath’s Grandmothers cake above.. here is what I done

  • I mixed the sugar, butter together till smooth then added the eggs

take all dry ingredients and mix together in another bowl..

Now mix in the flour mixture and the buttermilk alternately with creamed mixture till smooth..

Have oven preheated to 350 and your 10 inch cast iron skillet lightly greased (bakers joy with flour in it works great)

Pour in batter

bake 25-30 minutes

loosen do not keep cake in pan, pan takes a long time to cool and will cause cake to dry out.. turn out onto plate.. careful not to burn yourself

make your icing while cake cools

I used a chocolate fudge icing

I melted 1 stick butter with 1/2 cup cocoa

stirring constant

Mix melted chocolate with 4 cups confectionary sugar and a little sweet milk to get a nice icing

Cut and serve
