HOW TO MAKE A CHECKERBOARD CAKE


Simply mix up your chocolate devils food cake and your yellow cake .. have batter in separate bowls.  Prepare your rounded pans by spraying with bakers Joy or by oiling and flouring..

you should have enough batter to do 5 rounds… take your batter and using a spoon or an ice cream scoop, begin with one line of chocolate on the outer ring.. make it thin and try to keep it uniform.. add a yellow ring leaving a small hole for chocolate center… now in the other round, you simply do the OPPOSITE.. try and eyeball your lines so that they are the same in thickness and width.

Bake at 350 till done.. will bake quicker than normal cause you did thinner layers than normal

continue on the next 2-3 rounds until you run out of batter … let them cool on wire rack while you make your chocolate icing

Assembly time..
start with chocolate and alternate each layer, do not put icing in between these layers you want the cake on cake effect to get the checkerboard look

now you just ice your cake with your chocolate frosting.. I added chopped pecans to the sides with a bit of shredded coconut .. and some drizzled white chocolate to the top just for decoration

Now for the real results of your labor.. CUT into the cake to get your checkerboard effect

 

PERFECT MILK CHOCOLATE ICING

1/2 cup melted butter

2/3 c cocoa

3 cups powdered sugar

1/3 c half half milk or reg milk

1 tsp vanilla

cream together till thick and smooth.
