SLICED MUSHROOM STEAK GRAVY WITH FRIED CUBED STEAK

To make this I start off with frying my bucket steak .. by  tenderizing then rolling it in self rising flour and frying in hot oil DO NOT OVER CROWD. Season with salt, pepper and garlic powder.  take out while crisp and let stand on wire rack that has a cookie sheet under it to catch the grease.. that way your steak will have a beautiful crust.

Now  do not discard the pan you used to fry the steak in.. you will make your gravy right in that pan with the drippings from the steak.. add in a egg size of butter  and 1 jar of drained sliced mushrooms. stir in the butter .

Now scatter about 3 – 4 tbsp of self rising flour in the pan.. stir to make your roux, it will be thick and bubbly.. keep stirring you want to brown it slightly..

have a can of evaporated milk opened and ready

and a tall glass of water ready as well…

once browned pour your evaporated milk in and stir rapidly with wooden spoon.

add in your water.. will look thin at this point but keep stirring.. will thicken.. season with salt and pepper well.. and a little garlic powder and add one DROP of browning sauce if you have it on hand.. if not don’t worry about it I actually hardly ever use it..

Serve over top of your potatoes and or your steak.. enjoy serve with fried or seasoned roasted garlic potatoes like I did today, country green beans, fried yellow squash and fried green tomatoes
