WEST VIRGINIA COAL MINER

He gets up every day
Before the rooster has time to crow
With a kiss on her lips
he slowly lets his wife go

He tells her, he loves her
and to tell the kids when they wake
they are the reason
he spends so much time away

He grabs his ole bucket
And heads for the door
Just as he turns around
He Thanks the Good Lord

“Thank you Lord for my family
If I never see them again
Watch over them and protect them
And lord specially my little man…

I want him to be more
Than I ever was
I want him to know more
Than breathing coal and dust

Lord I am so thankful
Please don’t get me wrong
I am proud to be a Coal Miner
This is where I belong

I just can’t imagine,
Working by my side
My lil’ youngin working
In these cold wet mines

So Jesus I know you hear me
As I go to work today
Please remember my family
If I should go this day”

He walks to his ole truck
And takes a deep breath
Every day he leaves them
He can’t help but think of death

Going to work ain’t easy
Like for the CEO or banker man
For Him it is survival, feeding his family
The best way that he can

Outsiders could never
Understand what he does
They could never be
The man this Coal miner is to us.

So if you see a coal miner
Stop and give him respect
They may look dirty and scarred
Their hair and clothes unkept

But once you meet the man
Behind all the dirt and grime
Strength Honor and Courage
Is what you will find

A heart full of love
Beating for his wife and his kids
He will work his life away
Because that is who he is.
